Den Yttersta Dagen [funeral002]

The second release on Funeral Fog Records is a 32 minutes long, black single sided cassette tape made in only 25 hand numbered copies.
The title of the release is “Den Yttersta Dagen” swedish for “The Last Day”.

This release is dedicated doomsday on 21st December 2012. This day will also be the official release day.

Mountain Hike 2012 Post 3

On the way down “Åreskutan” the wind began to accelerate and the fog thickened. As a guidepost, there were a lot of weather-beaten red steel pipes drilled into the rock. Some of these pipes had small holes in them that induced a flute-like sound when the wind blew through them.
At the beginning I did not understand that the sounds came from the pipes so for a long time I walked around and wondered what these droney abstract sounds which created an even more eerie feeling in the barren landscape was.

When I realized it was the pipes that developed them I took my Aquarian H2 hydrophone and lowered it a few feet down the pipe and really hoped that it could capture the sound, and it really did!

I think this recording is the most intresting and best recording I made this mountain hike. Both because it was so unexpected and for the fasination of how melodic and complex sounds the nature can create.

Mountain Hike 2012 Post 2

A one-day hike that we did was to climb the 1420 meters high mountain “Åreskutan” in the middle of the large ski resort of Åre.
We thought this would be an easy hike completed in 5-6 hours but the weather wasnt with us and it turned out to be a very struggling walk in heavy rain and hard wind.
But when we started walking from central Åre weather was fine apart from some light rain. After about two hours of walking we had come halfway up the mountain and it was time to pack up our liquid-gas stove and cook some lunch.
We found a shelter that we set ourselves in in order to get protection from the rain which had now begun to accelerate.
The sound of the wind and the rain that fell on the shelters tin roof was very intense so I decided to put a hydrophone on the roof to capture this complex and almost ghostly sound.
The recording turned out to be very raw and distorted. I really like it!

Mountain Hike 2012 Post 1

This summer me and my girlfriend spent one week hiking in the Swedish “Jämtland mountains”.
We walked about a hundred kilometers in six days and I brought my recording equipment to try to capture the sounds of this beautiful landscape.

I will upload a few of the recording here in the upcoming weeks.

First out is four recordings of some mountain streams and rivers.

The first couple of days we walked down the big mountain river “Storulvån”.
The sound from this river was very intense and monotone and after a few days it started to get on my nerves and I longed to get away from the river and into the silence of the bare mountains.
But still I think it is a really fascinating powerfull sound that just goes on and on and on and on…

Along the way we passed many small mountain streams were we often stayed and picked up some water to drink (oh yes the water up in the mountains is very fresh and tastes wonderful:-).

Jurko Haltuu Live@Maglehemsfestivalen 2012

This weekend I’ve spent a few days on the Maglehemsfestival. This is a very small and intimate musicfestival located in the very beutiful “Österlen-area” on the southeastern coast of Sweden.
The festival focuses mostly on rock and pop music but also has a few electronic acts and even some poets and other art forms on the schedule.

On Saturday at 4 PM, I did my live-performance. This was the third time I performed at the festival but the first time I played in daylight.
It was a new experience playing my music in bright sunshine and 25 ° C. This brought a different kind of audience and mood than playing as the closing act in the middle of the night that I’ve done the other years.
But because it was so sunny and bright, I could not use the visual projections that I had created for this live set. I think this miscalculation unfortunately resulted in that the show lost a dimension.

But I’m satisfied with the musical part of the show and feel that it would be fun to work on with it and make it sound even bigger and deeper.
And it would be intresting to do some more live apperances with it in the future,
where I also includes the visual effects.

All the sounds in the set is made of many different field-recordings that I have recorded and later processed using the computer and some analog effects to create this “sinuswave sounding drones”.

Jurko Haltuu & Anders Walldén Live@Luminans (Borgen) 2012-03-23 Malmö

A few months ago I wrote that I was preparing a liveset together with Anders Walldén, the gig went well and if you are intrested you can download and listen to how the set ended up here: BorgFM

The set is mostly build around sounds from the upcoming cassette split we are working on and soon going to release on my lable Funeral Fog Reords. So take a listen to the recording and keep your ears and eyes open for the release if you like what you hear.

New York Sounds: Path train from Christopher Street to Hoboken

This is the last New York sound that I going to upload. It is a recording that starts underground in the Christopher Street path station and takes you under the Hudson River to Hoboken, New Jersey.
I really enjoy recording in subway trains and stations. They always offer many exciting drones and noises.

For this recordingI used my Röde NT4 in the Röde Blimp (clamped outside my back pack) connected to my Marantz PMD661.

New York Sounds: Central Park

I made this field recording a sunny day sitting on the grass in Central Park with my Röde Blimp and NT4 connected to my Marantz PMD-661.
I really like how so many sounds and atmospheres come together in this recording. The droning sound from all the cars on Manhattan, the rumble of planes and helicopters that circulated over the park, the wind rustling in the treetops, people chattering on their picnic blankets and birds singing.

It was a nice day in the park.
